Track Links and Backlinks
Tools and resources to track links and backlinks of your own or your competitor’s website.
Google’s Own URL Shortener
Google has it’s own URL shortener at goo.gl. According to Matt Cutt’s blog it was created so Google could use it for its own products, but then they decided to make it available to the public. If you log in to your Google account, you’ll get analytics and history features for the URLs you’ve shortened with number clicks, traffic sources and visitor profiles. Looks like it doesn’t have a feature yet to preview the full URL before clicking on it.
Analyze Backlinks Instantly
Analyze backlinks from unique domains in an instant on MajesticSEO.com. They also feature a free bad-neighborhood checker which checks the backlinks on other domains hosted on the same server and a bulk backlink checker. Tools worked very well and quickly. The site also offers a pro version with which you can analyze competing domains, and also API services.

There are lots of link checkers out there, but many have limits on how many pages they’ll check, or you have to create an account and log in to use it. Depending on how big your site is, this free tool will take several minutes to check your site’s links. It will also generate suggestions on how to fix issues it uncovers.

Generate More Back Links
This strategy may not be 100% fool proof, but using a service like Tynt may help you increase the number of backlinks to your website. It works by attaching a script to any snippet that a visitor will copy from your site; the script generates a backlink where the snippet it’s being copied to. The person copying and pasting could easily delete the link, but the site claims that most people actually leave the link intact. Their basic service is free.
