If you want fewer search results per page, give Cuil search engine a try. It displays only a handful of search results, but also adds related categories alongside suggested results. A feature at the top of the page lets you view real time results. This may not be a search engine to optimize for, but its unusual way of generating search results may be useful when analyzing your competitors pages.
